Favaro1 has obtained ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System: an award that recognizes the strategies adopted by the company to reduce the environmental impact of its activities.
The certification was achieved through a long journey undertaken by management and employees to strengthen already established practices and implement an action-oriented environmental policy.
“The certification rewards our concrete commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility, motivating us to continue with even greater determination. Adopting ecological practices and reducing the environmental impact of our activities is not just a duty, but an integral part of our corporate identity: a path we pursue with conviction and which ISO 14001 certification confirms is the right one.”
- Luca Favaro, CEO of Favaro1
What is ISO 14001 certification
ISO 14001, reported in Italy as UNI EN ISO 14001:2015, is an international standard designed to guide organizations in the responsible management of environmental aspects. It is a certifiable standard: to obtain it, a company must apply to an accredited body that verifies compliance with the requirements.
This certification is not mandatory and it is up to the individual company to decide whether to adopt it, thus choosing to invest in a structured system to manage its environmental impact. The Environmental Management System represents the set of policies, procedures and actions that an organization puts in place to control the effects of its activities on the environment, comply with applicable regulations and identify opportunities for improvement and possible risks.
ISO 14001 does not certify specific environmental achievements, but certifies that the organization has taken a controlled, systemic approach to managing its ecological footprint. The requirements are applicable to any organization, regardless of sector or size, and are based on a continuous improvement model consisting of four steps: Plan, Do, Check, Act.
The Environmental Policy
To obtain ISO 14001 certification, it is essential to draw up the Environmental Policy, a strategic document that defines sustainability guidelines and commitments. It is a real guide that supports the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System. To be effective, it must be clear, accessible and updated whenever significant changes occur within or outside the organization.
Favaro1's path to ISO 14001 certification.
Favaro1 undertook a structured process that complied with the requirements of the standard. A transversal work articulated in several key phases, which involved the entire organization:
- context analysis: understanding the organizational structure, operational context and internal and external factors that influence the Environmental Management System (EMS);
- stakeholder identification: analysis of needs and expectations, with a focus on environmental impact;
- definition of the scope of the EMS: relevant activities, products, services and sites;
- development of the Environmental Policy: drafting of the guiding document expressing the company's commitment to environmental protection;
- assignment of roles and responsibilities within the organization to ensure the effective operation of the EMS;
- management commitment, which takes an active role in supporting and guiding the system;
- operational planning:
- identification of significant environmental aspects and assessment of impacts;
- definition of objectives consistent with the Environmental Policy;
- planning of targeted actions to achieve objectives and manage risks and opportunities;
- monitoring of compliance obligations and relevant environmental parameters;
- staff training and awareness: information and updating to promote awareness and participation;
- internal audit: systematic verification of system compliance;
- nonconformity management: implementation of corrective actions;
- management review: periodic assessment of environmental performance and system effectiveness to drive continuous improvement.
ISO 14001 certification represents an important milestone, but also an intermediate step in a journey that Favaro1 has been determinedly pursuing for years. From the efficiency of facilities and products - of which Recycle 2.0 is a significant example - to the procedures that regulate every phase of the company's activities, Favaro1 demonstrates a concrete, constant and shared commitment: a sustainable and responsible vision that looks to the future.
